An Introduction To The Growth Mindset

An Introduction To The Growth Mindset

- Carol Dweck came up with this concept.

For people who don’t know, firstly what is a mindset?

A mindset is formed by a group of previous thoughts and beliefs which you have accepted and allowed to shape present your thoughts.

Accepted thoughts are what direct & control your emotions & actions

and your actions create your life.

A growth mindset is believing that you can always do better and succeed. Regardless of your natural abilities, born talent may give certain people a head start but people with dedication and hard work can create success.

This mindset isn't just about talent, it is about not giving up and believing you can always do better. You see, with a growth mindset when you do fail, you look for ways to improve, adapt accordingly and then you go back at it. Even when you are doing good you identify how you can improve on top of that.

You're an optimist. Always looking on the bright side.

Now.

The opposite of a growth mindset is a fixed mindset.

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. Set in stone and can never be changed.

They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them.

They also believe that talent alone creates success without effort. therefore when they fail it is because they do not have talent in that area and nothing will change that.

After finding out about a growth mindset many people will instantly go onto say that they will apply this to all areas of their life and that's great but it's not possible. Everyone has both a growth and a fixed mindset. To be honest we need both it's just a matter of which one you choose more.

When people see that you have a growth mindset most of the time they are going to be attracted towards you and will admire you if you keep it.

The growth mindset will usually form part of a larger mindset, like a brick in a wall.

An example of a growth mindset is Kobe Bryant’s Mamba mentality...
